Royal Copenhagen 2008 Collectibles
The 2008 Royal Copenhagen Collectible Collection consists of following 8 series:
The Christmas Plate series by Sven Vestergaard
No other Christmas plate collection in the world can rival the long and wonderful history of Danish Christmas plates. Right up to the present day, every single year has seen the launch of a plate with changing motifs taken from Denmark’s countryside, history and traditions. In 2008, therefore, Royal Copenhagen can celebrate the centenary of its famous Christmas plate. Sven Vestergaard has decorated the 2008 Christmas Plate, “Copenhagen Christmas”, with the most beautiful of the Danish capital’s towers: the Stock Exchange, City Hall, the Round Tower, Christiansborg Palace, the Church of Our Lady, Our Saviour’s Church and the Marble Church.
Besides the Christmas Plate this series includes several products with the mentioned tower motif: the bell, cup and saucer, drop, bonbonniere and pocket mirror (NEW). This year the plaquette shows the village of Reersø, home to Denmark’s tailless cats.
This year’s figurines are two children, Laura and Oliver, who are both wearing blue winter clothes. The two children have been picking white Christmas roses for their mother. Laura has put her flowers in a pretty basket, while Oliver is kneeling to gather his. This year’s figurine ornament is a basket of Christmas roses.
The Centennial series
Royal Copenhagen’s Christmas Plate will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008. Five carefully selected plates and plaquettes from the period 1908 to 2008 are therefore being issued from 2004 onwards. The last of the selected plates and the 2008 edition was originally issued in 1908 and shows the Virgin Mary with the Baby Jesus. The Christian Danish Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, and this motif marked the start of a whole century of Christmas plates.
The Children’s Christmas series by Henny Iversen
Royal Copenhagen’s annual “Children’s Christmas” series has been issued since 1998 in the characteristic manner of Ingrid Jensen. This year there is a new artist: Henny Iversen. The 2008 motif is called “The Miracle of Motherhood”. The plate shows the Virgin Mary with the Baby Jesus, but the motif pays homage to the joy and love between mother and child in general.
The Annual Santa series by Sven Vestergaard
This is a series from Royal Copenhagen in which we follow Santa on his rounds on a busy Christmas night. The 2008 figurine is the eighth in the series and shows Santa skating with the teddy bear.
The Annual Mug series by Liselotte Tiller Sørensen
The series of Annual Mugs from Royal Copenhagen is a classic and this year’s motif is the 42nd in the series of usable mugs decorated by well-known Danish artists. Painter Liselotte Tiller Sørensen has created the motif using the traditional shades of blue for which Royal Copenhagen is famous.
The Winter Plate series by Henny Iversen
The little family of snowmen is made up of the father, Max, the mother, Sophie, and their son, Arthur. The family has gone into the woods to feed the birds.
The Annual Christmas Tree Series by Sven Vestergaard
The “Annual Christmas Tree” is a new series from Royal Copenhagen for 2007. The 2008 Christmas Tree is decorated with red and white Christmas hearts and has a gold star at the top. The year is engraved on the pot.
