Ursula
Back in 1992 Royal Copenhagen launched the faience dinnerware series Ursula, designed by ceramist Ursula Munch-Petersen.
The fertile functionalism, beautiful colours and unique design characterise Ursula. They reflect a wish to create a service, which exudes warmth and friendliness – a service that brings pleasure to daily life, as Ursula Munch-Petersen says. Because it is precisely the everyday utensils, which are closest to Ursula Munch-Petersen’s heart.
It is characteristic that each piece in the Ursula dinnerware series, besides having their own function, can be used in other ways as well.
For example, the small oval plates can be used as side plates, saucers and lids to the oval bowls. The dish functions as a serving dish for tapas, olives etc and as a lid for the jug when the milk needs to be kept warm. The jug in itself is already a classic because of its unique design that is almost sculptural. The oval dinner plates too are designed with a desire for function, the shape gives more room on the table, takes up less room in the cupboard and inspires one to serve food in a new way.
The oval dinner plate is an obvious example of new thinking. The elliptical shape has many advantages - it makes more room on the table, takes up less space in the cupboard, makes it possible to arrange the food more easily and in a more appetising way.
The items of Ursula dinnerware series are glazed in a selection of cheerful colours which mingle on the table in appetising harmony. The rich forms and generous sizes clearly reflect function and Ursula contains many interesting details and possibilities.
