The Art of Giving Flowers
The world famous Dutch artist and designer Wouter Dolk has created a home décor collection for Royal Copenhagen in the language of flowers.
The Art of Giving Flowers consists of three different wall reliefs in three sizes and three different colours, which cover iridescent pink, blue and white in matt and shiny glaze. The two small reliefs show a beautifully carved Dahlia, while the largest dish is a composition of Chrysanthemum and Cherry Blossom. The series also includes a beautifully shaped Hydrangea vase in three colours and a vase installation consisting of a glass vase shaped like a bulb and a majestic white porcelain Lily, which can be used on its own or as a surprising and stylish element in a flower arrangement.
The universal language of flowers
Royal Copenhagen has been putting beautiful hand painted flower motifs on its porcelain ever since it was founded in 1775. Blue Fluted, Flora Danica and Blue Flower all interpret and illustrate the language of flowers in their own way, so working with Wouter Dolk is a natural step for the porcelain factory.
The series of plate-shaped wall reliefs is being made at Royal Copenhagen’s factory in Copenhagen in accordance with the traditions of relief craftsmanship that are also used for Royal Copenhagen’s annual plates. This technique requires a special talent for distributing the paint over the rough porcelain surface in such a way that colour and shade match the carved motif perfectly. This technique has been in use since 1888 and is unique to Royal Copenhagen.
