Triton

The Triton collection blurs the boundaries between fine dinnerware and an organic work of art. Originally crafted in 1976 by acclaimed Danish artist and goldsmith Arje Griegst, and reimagined in 2026, the porcelain masterstroke is one of Royal Copenhagen’s most visionary artist collaborations. Harnessing the poetry of waves and seashells with a surreal splendour, Triton speaks its own fluid language while dipping into Royal Copenhagen’s baroque heritage and fluted shapes.

The Colours

Taking cues from the Griegst archives, three new artisanal airbrushed colourways were created: Sand, an homage to Arje Griegst’s inspiration for Triton – a conch shell on a sandy seabed rippled by the current; a crystalline Ocean as Griegst’s avant-garde take on the iconic Royal Copenhagen cobalt blue colour; and a jade Celadon in a nod to Triton’s original sample editions. A translucent glaze seems to float on the porcelain, adding to Triton’s liquid sensuality, where functional forms dissolve into sculpture.

The Craft

Arje Griegst designed Triton with methods as unconventional as the design itself. Using beeswax casting techniques from his fine jewellery practice, he carved organic and vibrating lines which were translated into porcelain by Royal Copenhagen’s modelling workshop. Traditional methods were adapted to achieve Griegst’s exacting vision, and Triton remains one of Royal Copenhagen’s most technically complex pieces of craftsmanship to date. Reviving this craft half a century later has been made possible with the invaluable experience of Royal Copenhagen modeller Bo Jørgensen, who helped develop the original design as an apprentice in the 1970s.
