Erik Nielsen (1857-1947), Sculptor

  • Trained at The Royal Academy of Art 1885-86.
  • Employed by Bing & Grøndahl Porcelain Manufactory as modelmaker 1886-87.
  • From 1887-1926 he was employed by The Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory.

A line of nature

At his long period at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory Erik Nielsen was leader of the modelling department as well as sculptor. He was the creator and initiator of the naturalistic line of animal sculpturers made for underglaze decoration.

During his employment at Bing & Grøndahl Porcelain Manufactory Erik Nielsen created some of the models for the famous Heron service and the Seagull service.
