In 2012, Royal Copenhagen initiated a collaboration with Dutch artist, Wouter Dolk, to pay homage to the historic Blue Flower from 1780 with a new dinnerware: blomst. blomst carries on the hand painted motifs of Blue Flower in a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic. Where Blue Flower was adorned with a bouquet of blue flowers centred on each piece of porcelain, every piece of blomst is decorated with a single, asymmetrically placed flower, hand painted onto modern, angled shapes. Created in 2018 by Wouter Dolk for Royal Copenhagen.
In blomst, much consideration has been given to the particular combination of form, design, placement and brushstrokes to evoke the grace of a flower on each piece. The softness of the reinterpreted, hand-painted Blue Flower decoration from the 1800s meets a simple, angular shape on every piece in a harmonious union.
Blomst is a comprehensive collection offering both dining and serving pieces, perfect for any conceivable occasion. Our plates are available in sizes from 15 cm up to 27 cm, each adorned with its own beautiful flower, allowing for a delightful mix of floral expressions. The smallest plates are ideal for desserts and light snacks, while the 19 cm and 27 cm plates are perfect as lunch and dinner plates. The angular design respectfully nods to Blue Fluted Angled, and the reinterpretation of subtle surface angles appears as a contemporary stroke of genius that will grace every table setting. The collection also includes deep plates measuring 24 cm, useful for individual servings and as serving bowls.
For serving dishes and accompaniments, bowls are available in four different sizes. The smallest bowls, 17 cl and 28 cl, can also be used for small portioned meals and breakfast. Conclude your dinner with loved ones around an extravagant tea table, where the Blomst teapot can create an eye-catching display. The teapot stands beautifully on its own but can be charmingly paired with cups and mugs in the same pattern, creating a cohesive, hand-painted floral display. Both the small cups with accompanying saucers and the beautiful mugs are suitable for tea, but they also serve perfectly as coffee cups and coffee mugs.
