Wave and Rock
Wave and Rock is one of Royal Copenhagen’s great works and demonstrates the world-famous artistic capability of the company.
Swedish artist Theodor Lundberg was married to an incredibly beautiful woman, who was much admired and the subject of many of his work. At an exhibition in Stockholm in 1897 he showed the Wave and Rock figurine, which was bought by the managing director of the Royal Danish Porcelain Manufactory. The figurine was not, however, put into production until around the time of the First World War, when people were not quite so narrow-minded and the daring sculpture could no longer shock.
